Antimicrobial Resistance
Our initiative organised an international B·Debate symposium entitled “Reversing a Dystopian Future: New Strategies to Discover Antibacterial Agents” in Barcelona in November 2019. Organised in collaboration with Biocat and “la Caixa”, the debate brought together leading experts in microbiology and infectious diseases to review and share new strategies to combat bacterial resistance.
In terms of knowledge translation, in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, we participated in a strategic plan on training to support the JPIAMR Virtual Research Institute, with a focus on diagnostics. The aim is to obtain data on antimicrobial resistance in low- and middle-income countries.
Regarding outreach, we have conducted various activities targeting high school biology teachers and students (EscoLab and the 13th Science Festival of Barcelona) as well as the general public. We held play sessions with our Micro-Combat card game, which is commercially available through Troquel Games. We are proud to say that Micro-Combat was awarded the “Best Communication/Awareness Strategy to Tackle AMR” award from the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS) in July 2019.
